About Sophia

Hello, I'm Sophia and I love helping students to have that ah-ha! moment (hence the name). I understand that each student learns differently. If you have a student that is saying "I don't get it" or " I hate ___" my goal is to change that mindset. If you have a child that needs tutoring I don’t believe it is because they are unintelligent, most often it is not that a student cannot comprehend the content but that it is being presented in an incompatible format. During the primary instruction students are receiving information once following a particular method, the purpose of tutoring is that students can hear content from a different viewpoint and in a different manner. Students could also be unmotivated, bored or just need more emphasis in key areas, difficulties that can be overcome. I was homeschooled from 2nd grade with a classical education. During my sophomore year in high school, I started taking classes at my local community college. I am about to start my senior year in high school and currently have 54 college credits. Because I was homeschooled I have a broad knowledge of different education methods and a passion for cultivating joy and peace through quality instruction that is personalized for each student.

I am still a student and I understand the difficulty that students have when learning. Each semester a student will have many different teachers and professors that all have different personalities and teaching styles. This is great to build versatility and flexibility however sometimes it's difficult to truly grasp content. I really just enjoy helping students achieve their goals and the grades they need to succeed in whatever they want to do with their lives. Many students have a goal or career they want to pursue and there will be difficulties on the way to those goals. Classes could be one of those difficulties. So I want to help students overcome those difficulties.

In addition, I love the content I'm teaching. I enjoy my classes and learning so I hope to cultivate that love of learning in others while helping them succeed.

I have my high school diploma and am currently in pre-university community college classes. I have a 4.0 grade average.

About the lesson

I like to do a complimentary 30-minute virtual meet-up to get to know the student and get an understanding of your student learns. From there you decided how many sessions you want to purchase and we get to the learning!

I have tutored several college students in College Algebra and Brief Calculus.

I have helped students with pre-algebra, algebra and lower mathematics.

Details

I typically schedule with the number of sessions. The more sessions you purchase the more I knock down the price. I find that hour long sessions work best but depending on the student that time could change. For 10 (1hr.) sessions I charge $200. For one (1hr.) session I charge $25. But I am flexible on pricing and am more than happy to work with the client on what is do-able for their family.
