About Jennifer

My ability to empathize, adapt, and be progress oriented, is a good formula for learning.

1. Empathy: When concepts are difficult to grasp or maintain, I make sure to take the time to try to understand what the root cause of the problem is. I will never raise my voice, demean, or participate in any behavior that damages a student's confidence.

2. Adapt: Every single person is different --- and so every single person should be matched to a method of learning or learning style that works best for them. I always tailor the lesson accordingly!

3. Progress-oriented: We all want to see tangible results in the time we spend together! I like to continually be mindful of performance --- not only through grades, but also other metrics such as speed, confidence level, and ability to reiterate key lessons.

It is the best feeling in the world to see someone grow. Getting better grades, or hitting the exam score you are aiming for are all incredible things --- but what also happens in the process is the growth of confidence and self-love. This is the foundation to success, and I am so blessed to be able to help others grow their confidence and self-love.

I spent 4 years working with America Reads, a National Government-backed initiative across Universities aimed at improving general youth education and increasing the rate of college application, particularly for underserved communities.

I also spent 3 years working with Mathnasium (similar to Kumon), also a National tutoring chain meant for students to receive extra time to catch up or preemptively prepare for coursework.

Both of these organizations had regular, monthly training sessions that provided tutors with the opportunity to continually sharpen their tutoring skills.

About the lesson

In the first session, I generally like to take time getting to know my student. I enjoy learning about their hobbies, skills, interests, dislikes, and preferences. I gauge their comfortability around communication, asking for help, work speed, learning style, listening skills, and more.

I have worked with students of all types! There is great variation in age, ranging from 6 years to 22 years. I've tutored students that were in the tutoring center because they needed individualized attention, and I've also tutored students that were excelling in classes and there to learn more.
