About Leanne

ATTN: I am currently on maternity leave while adjusting to a new baby born in late August. I will be available again for tutoring students in late October/early November.

I'm a licensed math teacher in VA with 10 years of teaching experience and a masters degree in math education. I have experience teaching all high school math courses and am comfortable with college math courses such as introductory statistics and calculus. I believe in a student centered approach to learning and will incorporate it into my tutoring by cultivating a deeper understanding of the importance of mathematics and an appreciation for the underlying principals of even the most basic mathematical concepts.

I enjoy tutoring because the of the personal connection between me and the students. In math especially, it is very rewarding to see progress and improvement and one-on-one tutoring is the best way to see this kind of growth!

I studied math and education at Penn State University and received a secondary mathematics teaching license for Pennsylvania upon graduation. When I moved to Virginia to begin teaching, my license transferred and I began full time teaching within a year of my graduation from Penn State.

I have a master's degree in Math Education and 10 years of experience teaching high school math, including 3 years of high school calculus, 4 years of AP Statistics, and 7 years of Geometry.

About the lesson

In our first meeting, I will ask the student to list their concerns and their goals for the math course in which they are receiving tutoring. Then I will ask a few diagnostic questions in order to gauge the students confidence and knowledge of the subject matter. From there, we will set up a schedule and create goals based on the student's needs

My primary experience is in classroom teaching, but over the years I have worried individually with many students, including students with special needs and gifted students ranging in age from 14 to 18.
