About Bryan

For the past 1 and a half years, I have worked as a martial arts instructor, teaching children of all ages. Before that, I was a volunteer at the same school for three years. Over that time, I have grown in my own ability to patiently, clearly, and thoroughly explain concepts to my students. Working with kids gives me a sense of purpose that few other activities can give me, and I always learn new things about myself in the process. In school, I was on the high honor roll for every marking period, and I graduated with a 4.46 GPA on a scale of 4. My SAT score is 1560, and my ACT score is a 35. Starting in the fall of 2020, I will begin my path to a bachelor's of science in engineering degree at Princeton University.

After years of training as a student in martial arts, my master recognized my leadership and willingness to help others, and asked me to join the school's team of volunteers. After putting in hundred of hours every year, I was offered a job as a teacher. I worked my way through the ranks and I am now qualified to run 45 minute taekwondo classes.

About the lesson

I have worked with students of all ages, from pre-schoolers to 10th graders. Additionally, I have worked with special needs students during that time.

Do not be scared to speak up for yourself. STEM subjects are difficult to understand, and the best way to succeed is to communicate when something is not working out with your teacher. If they're explaining something in a way you do not understand, tell them. More often then not, they will make an effort to adapt their teaching style in a way that is better equipped for you. Teachers take great joy in seeing their students ask questions; it shows that they are engaged in the subject and are willing to learn it.

I will never forget the moment I opened my acceptance from Princeton. I just got off of a shift from work and I checked on the website where they release their admissions decisions. After I saw I was accepted, I hugged my mom for five minutes straight and we both cried tears of joy.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
- What teaching style best suits me? Do I learn better by watching someone do examples, hearing them talk through their steps, tackling the examples myself, or a combination of those? Knowing your learning style in advance will help you make the most out of any teacher.
