About Deborah

(Slots available only between 9:30 and 3:00) Hi! ! I have a bachelor's degree in English Education and a masters degree in Special Education. My passion is helping students of all ages to succeed both academically and in life! For dyslexia-related intensive reading and spelling instruction, I use an Orton-Gillingham method known as Wilson Reading. I also specialize in teaching Greek & Latin word roots and meanings. I’ve been tutoring online via Zoom since 2018.

Teaching is a second career for me. I always wanted to be a teacher, so I went to college in my late 30s and made my dream come true!

I have a bachelors degree in English education, a masters in special education, and 20 years of public school teaching experience. I’ve been trained in an Orton-Gillingham method for teaching students with dyslexia and have been working with students one-on-one for 5 years now.

About the lesson

I offer a free initial consultation (up to 30 minutes) on Zoom. I meet parent and student and show the online teaching process. I may do a brief assessment with student to evaluate areas of deficit.

I have worked with elementary through high school students both as an ELA teacher and as a special education teacher. Right now, I work predominantly with dyslexic students and with students who benefit from vocabulary acquisition via morphology (word parts) instruction.
