About Casey

I recently graduated from Knox College with Honors. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and am certified to teach 1st-6th grade in the State of Illinois. I prefer to tutor elementary-aged students. I am super passionate about teaching and finding ways to help students connect with their learning. I look forward to working one-on-one to creatively find individualized learning solutions for students remotely.

I love connecting with students and seeing them grow as they work through different types of learning!

From a very young age, I have loved working with students and helping them grow.  Throughout my college practicum experiences, I spent a lot of time working with students.  I greatly enjoy helping students to achieve their learning goals, while also providing them with a truly engaging learning process.  I believe in hands-on, inter-disciplinary learning as it allows students to make more connections between the content and real life applications.  Additionally, inter-disciplinary learning enhances each student’s abilities to meet and exceed state standards as they are more engaged in the learning process. I am very comfortable with utilizing different types of technology. I took all of my spring classes online and so am very comfortable using programs like Zoom and Google Meet.

I am a certified teacher. I completed a State of Illinios accredited teacher training program at Knox College, from which I graduated with honors.

I would start be assessing the student's need based on their grade level and common core state standards that may apply to their learning.  Then I would work with the student to create learning strategies that best fit their learning style.  Additionally, I will work to ensure that students gain independence for the skills by which they are challenged.

I have worked in classrooms across different elementary grade levels to meet the needs of diverse students.  I have also costumized learning plans for students with IEPs and 504s, as well as students who are English Language Learners.

I would suggest that students look for a teacher who is able to connect with them and make them comfortable in the learning process.  Making mistakes is an important part of learning and students should work with a teacher who will allow them to try things out in order to grow.

I come from a dance background and often utilize movement within my lessons to help students make deeper connections to their learning. I am part of a dance and theatre company which has been producing new works virtually the past few months.  As a member of the company, I work in many different teams and adapt to meet the vision for each production.  I am incredibly organized and often take detailed notes when learning about something new.  I am also empathetic and believe in the importance of social and emotional learning for my students.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should be able to communicate what specific area is confusing or challenging when working with a teacher so that their needs are met.
