About Sarah

I have been teaching for 5 years from kindergarten to 2nd grade. This past year, however, I decided to help students with virtual learning and tutoring. With the difficulty of remote learning, I have decided that instead of going back into the classroom, I would continue to help students outside of the classroom with any skills they may be struggling with. I really enjoy tutoring since it gives me the ability to work with students one on one. This helps me recognize their strengths and weaknesses and identify ways to increase their confidence. The many skills I have learned throughout my career have helped me grow as a teacher and now a tutor.

I have always had a passion for teaching and helping elementary kids grow. Yes, teaching can be stressful in many ways. However, realizing the difference you're making in your students' lives makes it all worth it. Since I'm used to teaching early elementary, I like to make learning fun and engaging. I want my students to see that learning can be fun!

Before college, I worked at a daycare where I learned to love teaching younger age students. I was able to teach kids from the toddler age up through school age at the daycare. This gave me the understanding of the importance of the education young students receive and I wanted to take on that challenge.

I graduated from Rowan University with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have experience teaching students from kindergarten through second grade. I have tutored students from second grade through fifth grade. The schools I have taught at offered trainings and seminars that I attended to make me the teacher I am today. I have also learned a lot from co teachers throughout my career.

About the lesson

When I first start working with a new student, I want to assess what they already know and what they are struggling with. This will help me get an idea of what they need more practice with.

I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of students throughout my teaching career. When I had students of a lower level in my class, I made sure to differentiate my instruction and give them support when needed. I liked to use centers as a part of my daily routine. This gives me the chance to give support when it's needed and challenge my students who are more advanced.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I believe students should not be afraid to ask for help. There is no reason for someone to feel nervous or embarrassed to ask for help. When asking their teacher for help, students should make sure they communicate everything they are confused about. The more they share with their teacher, the more their teacher is able to help them.
