About Dr Stu
I’m a Mathematics PhD graduate from UNSW who genuinely enjoys helping students feel confident with math. I know how intimidating the subject can be, especially at HSC and university level, so my goal is always to make things clear, manageable, and logical.
I’ve worked with a wide range of students, from those who struggle with the basics to high-achieving Extension and selective-school students aiming for top results. I’m patient, reliable, and focused on helping each student improve in a steady, supportive way.
I take a professional approach to tutoring, with well-prepared lessons and clear communication with both students and parents. Whether you’re preparing for the HSC or tackling university mathematics, I aim to make the learning process far less stressful — and far more rewarding.

My lessons are structured, concept-driven, and focused on building genuine mathematical understanding rather than rote learning. I teach students how to think mathematically — how to break problems down, recognise patterns, and apply ideas across unfamiliar questions — which is essential for HSC Advanced, Extension 1 & 2, and university-level mathematics.
I typically begin by identifying gaps in understanding, then rebuild the underlying concepts using clear explanations, worked examples, and guided problem-solving. As confidence grows, we shift toward exam-style and extension problems to develop speed, accuracy, and problem-solving intuition. I also place strong emphasis on mathematical communication: how to structure solutions clearly and present full-mark responses.
Most lessons run for 60 minutes, although 90-minute sessions are available for senior or university students. Sessions can be online or in-person (Sydney). Students are welcome to bring schoolwork, past papers, or topics they find challenging, and I also provide targeted problem sets when needed.
I am a recent PhD graduate in Mathematics from UNSW. I have over 12 years of experience teaching and tutoring HSC students across a wide range of abilities, from struggling learners to high-achieving extension and selective-school students.
