Teaching Method and Techniques
My teaching approach is student-centered and focuses on understanding each learner's unique needs and strengths. I utilize a combination of:
Differentiated instruction: Tailoring lessons to the learning styles and abilities of my students, ensuring each one can grasp the material in a way that makes sense to them.
Interactive learning: Engaging students through hands-on activities, discussions, and multimedia resources to make lessons more relatable and enjoyable.
Scaffolded support: Breaking down complex concepts into smaller, manageable parts, gradually removing support as the student gains confidence and mastery.
Data-driven instruction: Using assessments and progress tracking to guide instruction, ensuring consistent growth and improvement.
The My Perspectives Curriculum: Incorporating real-world themes and critical thinking to make lessons relevant and aligned with the North Carolina Standards.
A Typical Lesson Plan
A typical lesson follows this structure:
Introduction (5-10 minutes): I begin with a warm-up or a quick review of the previous lesson, checking for understanding and readiness.
Instruction (15-20 minutes): New concepts are introduced, usually through multimedia presentations, real-world examples, and interactive activities.
Guided Practice (15-20 minutes): Students work on an activity or exercise with my support, allowing them to apply what they’ve learned.
Independent Practice (15 minutes): Students are given tasks or assignments to complete on their own, reinforcing the day’s learning.
Closing and Review (5-10 minutes): The lesson concludes with a recap and discussion of key takeaways, plus a preview of the next session.
