About Amy

Whether you're looking for some extra help for your child in Maths, are studying for a Physics exam or you're keen to develop your core skills, I'm here to help!
I have a strong scientific background; achieving an Honours degree in Physics and a Masters in Clinical Physics before spending 4 years working in Healthcare Science Services in the NHS.
For the past 8 years I have been a Class Assistant at an out-of-school Maths and English Tuition Class for ages 5 to 15. My role involves developing early learners' handwriting and counting skills and assisting older students. With between 20 to 30 learners in the class working at various levels, I can cover anything from forming sentences to long division in any one session.
Between 2016 and 2018 I was a Tutors Assistant at an Adult Basic Education class. Learners, who range in age from 16 to 70+ years, attended for assistance with Literacy, Numeracy and Basic ICT. In 2016 I attained the Professional Development Award (PDA) in Supporting Adult Literacies Learning following up with Unit 1 of the PDA in Understanding and Supporting Individuals with Dyslexia in 2017.
Tutoring since January 2017, I have worked with over 60 students, in preparation for the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022 & 2023 National 5 and higher SQA exam diets. I also have membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme with Disclosure Scotland.

About the lesson

I'm a strong advocate for Education and Continuing Personal Development and as such I enjoy working with learners of all ages, but I predominantly work with high school age students (S3,S4,S5). My lessons comprise of a mixture of book work, mental maths and problem solving. I set regular homework based on what we've covered and I provide parents/carers with verbal feedback after every session. I'm both patient and friendly in my tutoring technique. I seek to ensure learners are happy with the work they're undertaking and comfortable with their (home) environment. This ultimately makes for a more productive, enjoyable learning experience.
