About Abigail
International Baccalaureate Background: I completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program at the French Immersion level, which has equipped me with a rigorous academic foundation and a deep understanding of advanced concepts across multiple subjects.
Bilingual Proficiency: Having been a French immersion student throughout my entire education, I am fluent in both French and English. I actively use both languages at home, allowing me to effectively teach and communicate in either language.
Strong Academic Performance: I am currently pursuing a Joint Honours Bachelor’s Program in Physics and Chemistry at the University of Ottawa, maintaining a consistent average of 80+ in STEM subjects and 90+ in languages during my later years in the IB program. Earlier in my education, I achieved consistently high marks across all subjects, demonstrating a well-rounded academic ability.
Practical Experience in Education: My experience as a summer camp counselor with the City of Ottawa, combined with my work in the nursery and Sunday school since the age of 13, has provided me with valuable skills in teaching, mentorship, and classroom management. This hands-on experience allows me to connect with students effectively and create a supportive learning environment.
Passion for Teaching: I am dedicated to fostering a positive and engaging learning experience, tailored to each student’s unique needs and interests. My background in both languages and STEM subjects equips me to provide a comprehensive educational experience.
This combination of academic excellence, bilingual proficiency, and practical teaching experience allows me to offer a unique and effective tutoring experience for my students.

Teaching Methodology and Techniques
Adaptive Learning: I prioritize understanding each student’s unique learning style and needs. This means that while I have a structured approach, lesson plans are always flexible and can be adjusted on the fly. Whether a student thrives on visual aids, hands-on activities, or verbal discussions, I adapt my teaching methods accordingly.
Language Immersion: In English and French lessons, I focus on conversational skills and practical usage. This includes discussions about everyday topics, encouraging students to express themselves and build vocabulary organically.
Structured Science and Math Lessons: For Physics and Chemistry, I balance traditional problem-solving with real-world applications. I include word problems that encourage critical thinking and connect concepts to everyday life to enhance understanding.
Typical Lesson Plan
For English and French (K-12):
Warm-Up (5-10 min): Casual conversation to practice speaking and build rapport.
Focus Activity (20 min): Introduce a specific topic (grammar, vocabulary, etc.) using real-life contexts, while being responsive to any school assignments the student may have.
Reading (15 min): Read a selected passage together, discussing themes and vocabulary, ensuring it aligns with their school curriculum where possible.
Wrap-Up (10 min): Review key points, assign practical "homework" like reading a short story, or address any specific assignments from school.
For Science and Math (K-8):
Introduction (5 min): Quick recap of the previous lesson and introduction of the new topic.
Direct Instruction (15 min): Explain new concepts using visuals and examples, adapting the approach based on the student's preferred learning style.
Guided Practice (20 min): Work through problems together, encouraging articulation of thought processes, while incorporating any current homework or assignments from school.
Independent Practice (15 min): Assign problems for independent practice, offering support as needed and ensuring it aligns with their schoolwork.
Conclusion (5 min): Summarize the lesson, highlight key takeaways, and adjust future lessons based on student feedback and school assignments.
What Sets Me Apart
Bilingual Instruction: I offer lessons in both English and French, helping students thrive in diverse environments and preparing them for a globalized world.
Focus on Real-World Applications: I strive to connect lessons to real-life scenarios, making the material more relatable and interesting for students.
Flexibility and Responsiveness: Lesson plans are not set in stone. I prioritize adapting lessons based on each student’s individual learning style, needs, and any assignments from their school. This ensures that our sessions are always relevant and beneficial.
Who the Lessons Are For
Grade Levels: I offer tutoring for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, focusing on foundational skills in math and science for younger students and more advanced topics for high schoolers.
Subject Specialties: My expertise covers:
Math and Science: K-8, including basic concepts and word problems.
English and French: K-12, emphasizing conversational skills and language comprehension.
This approach ensures that I can meet the diverse needs of my students while fostering a positive and productive learning experience!
