About
As a 2nd grader, I was asked to tutor 4th and 5th graders in math. My history of tutoring, which is now over 40 years of teaching, has given me countless different ways to approach tough math subjects. I have a list of Dos and Don'ts that I abide by, and no student I’ve ever had will tell you that I’ve ever broken any of these promises: 1) No matter how much time it takes for the student to grasp the concept, I’ll never get frustrated with them, nor rush them into completing the lesson until they’re ready. 2) I will always re-encourage the student that they’re doing well, and that it is completely normal for everyone to learn math at different paces. 3) I won’t ever comment on, nor make any student feel uncomfortable about anything about their looks or personality. If the student is non-binary or transgender, I will always use correct pronouns and respect the student’s gender identity above all.

Students will be taught their area of math directly. If the student is having trouble grasping the material, I will make the content relatable by asking them what they like to do outside of school, and I’ll come up with problems and lessons that substitute numbers and shapes with lessons and problems disguising the material as things they’re interested in. After all, we use math every day! And as a long-time gaming enthusiast, I can apply geometrical scenarios to get them comfortable with Geometry, a subject that many of my past students have struggled with, or been disinterested in.
