About Yuli

I’m a university student studying business and computer science, and I’ve been teaching math for 5 years as a Kumon instructor, volunteer educator, and private tutor for students from grade 1 to grade 12.

What I’m best at is adapting to each student. With younger kids, including those with ADHD, I keep lessons short, hands-on, and full of movement, games, and quick wins, so their energy works for them instead of against them. With older students, I slow down and break hard problems into clear, manageable steps until the logic makes sense, not just the answer.

Because I’m a student myself, I explain things the way I wish they’d been explained to me: clearly, patiently, and without making anyone feel behind. As a team captain in sports, I’ve learned that confidence comes from small wins, and that’s how I run my lessons. My students go from dreading math to asking for harder problems.

Every lesson is built around your child. We work on whatever they need most, whether that’s this week’s homework, an upcoming test, or a topic that never quite clicked, and I create personalized material for each session based on that.

Before anything else, I get to know how each student learns: what comes easily, where they get stuck, and what keeps them engaged. I rely heavily on visual aids, like diagrams, drawings, and hands-on models, because seeing an idea is often what makes it make sense. From there, I build on their strengths to tackle their weak spots, one step at a time.

Patience is at the heart of how I teach. No question is too small, and no one gets rushed. I care about building a real connection with each student, because kids learn best when they feel comfortable enough to say “I don’t get it.”
