About Grace

I have spent three years teaching foreign languages to students of different ages, from Pre-K 2 in an immersion environment all the way up to 9th graders learning in a traditional foreign language learning situation. I am very familiar with the standard style of language learning (via verb conjugation and vocabulary memorization following systems such as D'Accord and En Avant), but also can easily adapt these structures to your benefit, thanks to my classroom experience. I also help my students attain good pronunciation abilities, while underscoring the fact that accent and pronunciation are not the same thing.

I myself learned French as a foreign language, allowing me to understand the mistakes that someone learning the language typically make and explain how to say what you want to say — and why you should not say it in the attempted manner.

About the lesson

I believe in an immersion style learning wherein you, the student, learn vocabulary that applies to you and your life, utilizing your interests and life experiences to learn the language.

I typically start each lesson by discussing the day, the weather, how the student's week has been (as well as any questions from the previous lesson), in order to ease into the language. Then we move on to either a new set of vocabulary or a new grammar concept, continuing with a game or activity that utilizes that concept and previous vocabulary and possibly grammar concepts as well. We end with any questions and the objective to work on the grammar and/or vocabulary before the next lesson.

I learned French as an Anglophone who now speaks the language fluently, with a metropolitan accent. Therefore I understand the differences and difficulties of actively learning French. Complexities of grammar, false cognates, and simply different phrasings to convey what you want— I can explain it all.
