About Valerie
As a Virginia state certified language teacher with 20 plus years of experience, I have developed numerous teaching methodologies and technics that enable my students to be successful learning French. Moreover, I have many years of experience preparing students for college placement exams such as AP French and IB.
Having lived and studied in France at both the High School and College level have enabled me to obtain near-native language competency.

My goal for my students is to help them become proficient in all 4 language competencies....speaking, reading, writing and listening.
Although I do teach grammar, it is taught in context according to a theme. I use a variety of on-line resources to teach including songs, interactive worksheets and games, and reading sites A typical lesson would start with either a quick review of last session, a short cultural video with discussion as a warm up, or a song. We would then, introduce vocabulary around the cultural theme of the session, do a short reading, then grammar practice according to the theme and reading. We would conclude with a conversation about the reading and theme of the day.
What sets me a part as a tutor is the combination of near native language abilities, gleaned from living and studying for two plus years in France, coupled with 20 years as Virginia certified language teacher and 2 years of on-line tutoring experience. I currently tutor all ages and abilities from elementary, high school, college and adults.
