About Maayan

I am an undergraduate student at UCLA, majoring in Biology. I love learning and I enjoy tutoring because I can share my love of knowledge with others in a patient, positive, and genuine way. I have been tutoring elementary-high school students in STEM, English, writing, and reading for 6 years, with 1 year experience tutoring at the collegiate level.
I am available to meet with students before tests to help them study as well as on a recurring basis to keep them updated on material through homework assignments and reviewing notes. I help students feel more confident in material and in their own abilities by clarifying difficult material or helping them get ahead in class.
I am patient, engaged, genuine, and enthusiastic. I care about what I teach and I care about my students and their success. I believe that with the right support, every student can succeed in class and appreciate the material that they are learning.

About the lesson

My teaching method lies primarily in self confidence. I have been a dedicated student for a long time, and I know that when I have confidence in myself, I will do better on the exam. Furthermore, I know that a confusing lesson or difficult homework assignment can be incredibly disheartening to a student who might otherwise love a subject with the right clarification/explanation. When students know that they can succeed, their attitude and subsequent performance improves drastically, because they are able to appreciate the beauty of the subject they are learning!

In terms of teaching the material, I am a strong believer in visuals! I use pictures and metaphors to explain abstract or complex topics to help the student understand the conceptual big picture. Once the student understands the umbrella concept, I use flashcards, more visuals, and games to help them memorize the smaller details for exams.

I know how to teach for the sake of the subject as well as teach for the sake of the grade and the exam. I know how to help a student succeed on his test but I also believe in teaching a student to appreciate the beauty of the subject.
