About Ross
I tutor A-Level Maths and Further Maths Physics with a calm, structured, step-by-step approach.
I hold a degree in Computer Science (Systems) and I am currently studying for a BSc in Physics with the Open University. Together, these have strengthened my mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and ability to explain difficult ideas clearly.
I focus on helping students build genuine understanding rather than relying on memorisation alone. This is especially important in A-Level Maths and Further Maths, where success depends on seeing how methods work, when to apply them, and how topics connect.
My teaching style is patient, clear and supportive. I adapt lessons to the individual student, including their pace, confidence level and preferred way of learning. I place strong emphasis on both understanding and exam technique, so that students not only follow the material more confidently but can also apply it effectively under exam conditions.
I usually reply to messages the same day, often within a few hours.

I teach by focusing on understanding first, then building fluency and exam confidence through guided practice.
Lessons are usually 1 hour and typically include:
- a short check of what the student already understands
- clear explanations broken into small, manageable steps
- guided questioning to help the student work out key ideas for themselves
- targeted practice using exam-style questions
- a brief recap at the end to reinforce the main points
I regularly link current topics back to earlier ones so that revision happens naturally and students develop a clearer picture of how ideas fit together.
I also place strong emphasis on exam technique: how to structure working, avoid common traps, choose the right method, and manage time effectively.
The first lesson is used to understand the student’s goals, identify strengths and gaps, and agree a realistic plan for future lessons.
