About Simi
I'm Simi - I work in publishing and live with two lovely cats, I love working with children and finding unique ways to make their lessons fun, but of course work fantastically well with adults and still use my problem-solving skills to help them get past barriers in their learning. I have around 11 years of tuition experience.
I am so passionate about English, Philosophy, Art and Music - and most importantly, sharing my love of them in a way that suits my students' personalities and learning styles.
I have a Master's degree in Philosophy, a couple of academic publications, a Bachelor's in English & Philosophy, a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design from Central St. Martin's, and I studied the IB curriculum where I scored 6/7 in all three subjects, and I'm also very familiar with the A Level material, as well as GCSE, other secondary and primary levels.
When I teach, I focus on the basic framework, knowledge and skills needed, and then encourage the student to generate ideas themselves with prompts from me. For example, I teach basic philosophical concepts using examples from their favourite film, tv show, book, or even celebrity news, encouraging discussion, and then returning to the page to help make notes and do any essay planning together if needed.
I can also offer standalone proofreading for essays with tiered levels of feedback - let me know if interested!
I can help with art practice and expression for young children, or help secondary school students prepare their work for exams, work on sketchbooks, plan works of art, help them asses their work, and help with the written aspect of the subject. I can also help with portfolio preparation targeted to a specific university or course.
I'm also grade 7 Piano (ABRSM) and specialise particularly in helping children who need a creative / musical outlet but struggle with engagement, motivation, and practising. Often times we move away from exams and classical music at first to help develop that connection with the practice, and then can always return to exams if the student and parent would like.
I'd like to begin with online lessons but am happy to move to in-person ones later down the line.
Please get in touch if I sound like a good fit for you, and let me know if you have any questions at all. Thanks!
