About Elijah

I’m 18 years old and have recently finished school and I’m about to take a gap year. I’ve always really enjoyed helping and teaching others, and I find it incredibly fulfilling to see someone grow in confidence and understand something they found difficult previously.

Having only recently been through school myself, I can relate well to students and understand the pressures and challenges they can face directly. I’m friendly, patient and approachable and excited to share my knowledge with younger students while helping them feel more confident and positive about their subjects.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is friendly, adaptable and focused on helping each student build both confidence and a genuine understanding of the subject.

For Maths, I like to work at a good pace while making sure the student fully understands each concept before moving on. My teaching style varies depending on the student, with some benefiting from step-by-step explanations and examples, while others learn best doing questions and discussing mistakes as we go.

For Latin, I generally take a slower and more methodical approach. Repetition and practice are especially important for building confidence with vocabulary, grammar and translation, so that takes up the bulk of the lessons. Another aim of mine is to make translations feel less intimidating over time by helping students recognise grammatical structures on their own.

Lessons can range from 30 to 90 minutes, since shorter sessions can work well for focused practice on a particular topic, while longer lessons allow exploration into more challenging topics, especially when focusing on an upcoming exam.

I achieved 9 Grades in both Maths and Latin at GCSE and went on to study both subjects at A Level, giving me a strong understanding of the subjects beyond GCSE level. I also have previous experience tutoring students voluntarily, which has helped me develop my ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt my teaching style.

My lessons are primarily aimed at GCSE students, whether they need help strengthening the basics or pushing towards the highest grade. I am also very happy to tutor younger secondary-school students who would like to build a strong foundation before beginning their GCSE course.
