About Maggie

I am an experienced educator with a passion for helping students grow into confident, capable learners. I was a military spouse until my husband’s retirement, a role that taught me adaptability, resilience, and the importance of strong communication—skills I bring into every teaching and tutoring session. I am also the parent of two young children, which has deepened my understanding of how students learn at different developmental stages and reinforced my belief that education should be supportive, patient, and purposeful. I chose to become a teacher because I genuinely want to make a positive change in students’ lives. My goal is not only to help students succeed academically, but also to prepare them for their future—whether that means college, career pathways, or everyday life skills. I focus on teaching critical thinking, communication, and independence so students feel prepared beyond the classroom.

About the lesson

As a tutor, my approach is student-centered, structured, and supportive. I believe students learn best when they understand why they are learning something and how it connects to their own goals. I focus on building confidence, clarity, and independence by breaking complex skills into manageable steps and modeling how strong readers and writers think.

I don’t just help students complete assignments — I teach them strategies they can apply across classes and grade levels. My goal is for students to leave each session feeling more capable, not more dependent.

While each lesson is tailored to the student’s needs, a typical tutoring session includes: check-in and goal setting, skill instruction or review, guided practice, independent practice and feedback, and wrap-up/next steps.
