About Nate

I find patience to be the most crucial of assets that a tutor should bring to a session. On that note, I embrace the student's comfort in saying "I don't know," when asked a difficult question or faced with a challenging problem-set. At no point will I make you feel lesser of yourself for expressing difficulty in grasping a particular subject. I also foster an interactive learning environment, contrary to simply "talking at" the student. More specifically, I believe open dialogue between the teacher and student allows for increased efficiency in learning. Lastly, I allow time toward the end of lessons for practice with the material - whether it be for formulating strong thesis-based writing or natural sciences problem sets. Whatever academic challenges you face, I look forward to working with you to inspire confidence turning in a paper or walking into an exam!

Hello! My name is Nate and I graduated from Wake Forest University in 2015 with a double-bachelors (BA) in Religion and German Language, the former of which was writing-heavy. Both majors required extensive scholarly research and thesis-based arguments at the collegiate academic level, skills which I have used as a tutor to help high-school and college students reach their academic potential. I also have previous tutoring experience in writing and middle/high-school sciences (specifically biology).

Regarding my science credentials, I recently completed medical school at St. George's University School of Medicine, earning a Doctor of Medicine (MD), where I developed study and test-taking methods specific to biological sciences. My studying and test-taking strategies were reflected not only in routine medical school exams, but also standardized exams required for medical licensure (NBME, USMLE).

I excel in one-on-one tutoring, as this is where I have the most experience. As a previous tutor in various subjects, I understand the importance of critical and analytical thinking and feel confident in guiding students through the process of preparing, studying, and performing well on exams and problem sets. I also have extensive experience in writing strong essays, utilizing outlining and proofreading. My philosophy for tutoring stems from my own experience as a student. I go over lessons in an interactive manner while ensuring adequate time remains for the student to practice with the material. Most importantly, I embrace patience as a tutor and the student's comfort in asking for help. I find that it is crucial for any student to be comfortable saying to their teacher "I don't know," when faced with something academically challenging. I appreciate that writing and science can be overwhelming areas for students but would love to work with you to simplify the process. This may mean consulting on writings and essays or navigating tips and tricks to memorize assets of biology. Whichever it is, I look forward to working with you so that you can gain more confidence in these subjects.
