Your performance isn't measured by your students' grades. Learning is not just comprehension. The student should be doing the work. It's okay to do an example occasionally, but make sure the student is leading the lesson, while you push with encouragement. Put the student in charge of their learning while you offer support and guidance. They should be writing on screen or on paper. Ask the student how they like to work and ask them what they want to work on. You can always suggest otherwise, but at least they know you're on their side. Ask follow-up questions and check for understanding before moving on. Also try to spend the last 5-10 minutes reviewing. Praise students for their effort, not the outcome. She's over the top, but consider how she makes you feel about learning. Students feed off your energy so bring it! Play dumb when the student makes a mistake. Some kids are really sensitive to being corrected. Pretend to check your own work and give the student a few seconds to find their own mistakes. If they don't catch it, then go over it together "trying to figure out" the error. When you do have to correct someone, take a deep breath and tell them "everybody thinks... but we have to remember...
