About James

Confidence is half the battle in learning and it is easy to lose it in a subject like Maths. This generally occurs because students are too often taught to repeat steps towards an answer rather than fully understand the concept, catching them out in exams. I start by introducing a few worked examples and then I get you to answer the questions that follow, making them more challenging and thought provoking as we go. This mental stimulus is key to building confidence and being prepared for the unknown.

About the lesson

Lessons are online and typically an hour long. I like to prepare students for their GCSE Maths exam but I also offer A-level or any help towards another Maths related qualification. Experience After graduating I began a training programme in 2004/2005 where I was working with two local 16-19 colleges. Some were studying towards their A-levels whilst others were doing Key Skills Numeracy, so I was gaining experience quickly at different levels. In 2006 I started working with private tutoring agencies who were sending me out to prep students for their upcoming GCSE or A-levels or even their retakes. I have mostly taught from year 9-13, which have come from a mix of State, Private and Grammar schools. All have had different learning styles and requirements. I have tutored in line with all the main exam boards AQA, Edexcel IGCSE/GCSE, OCR, Cambridge IGCSE and have taught both Modular and Linear courses. Outside mainstream curricula, I have helped pilots, trainee doctors and teachers pass their aptitude tests. Engineering students have also requested tuition with their upcoming exams that include mathematical components. I have also taught students with Autism as well as other conditions such as ME, ADHD and Dyslexia.

I would highly recommend James, he is very professional and great at what he does. He helped my daughter in preparation for her GCSE’s and as a result she passed, despite being predicted a much lower grade going into year 11. James has a lovely manner and a superb way of explaining the techniques even if she didn’t understand it right away. He was always on time for the sessions and was also happy to asses and track her progress through her school mock tests to see where she needed more support. My daughter even said she would miss the sessions after sitting her GCSE’s which was a huge turn around as she really did not enjoy maths prior to the tutoring.
