About Josh
I am a graduate of Illinois State University. I received a bachelor's in general music, with a focus on opera performance and composition, as well as a double minor in psychology and history. I have had 3 years of professional opera instruction through my time at ISU, as well as courses in piano, guitar, music theory, and music composition. My performance credentials include 3 operas, 4 symphonies (1 as tenor soloist for Beethoven's 9th), 2 requiem masses, and over 40 choral concerts and musicals. I am currently working on writing my first symphony, and I try to work on continuing to learn guitar and piano when I can.

My goal is not only to help improve the skills of those with experience in music, but I want to help introduce the language of music to new and aspiring musicians. I aim to meet every student at their level and go through a comprehensive breakdown of music terminology, the way music is transcribed, and how to properly read and write sheet music. For vocal instruction, I aim to help instill a proper breathing technique, find the proper placement of the voice, and improve skills in ear training and sight reading. While my instruction style for vocals is more geared towards an operatic style, the techniques used can be effectively implemented across multiple genres and improve your overall tone.

The additional $5 for travel is used to help offset the cost of gas for travel. I am willing to travel up to around 30-35 minutes away from Knoxville for one student, and up to 1 hour away from Knoxville if there are multiple students, either independently or in a group setting.
