About Lucy

I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University where I completed a double-major in Theatre and Gender & Sexuality Studies with Honors.

At Northwestern, I was awarded the Wood Scholarship, given to one outstanding Senior in the School of Communications (500 students).

I have extensive experience working as a tutor, both for tutoring agencies and freelance.

Professionally, I work in the theatre industry as a Director and Producer, but I genuinely enjoy supporting students and their academic pursuits in my spare time. While I was an over-achieving student in school, there still came I time when I needed a tutor to support me with AP Physics. I understand that schools demand a lot of students nowadays. Students are not only expected to complete incredibly large amounts of homework, but they are expected to take part in every extracurricular under the sun. In my practice, I understand the high stakes emotions which often accompany needing a tutor. My goal is to provide support so that some of that anxiety, whether experienced by the student and/or parent, can be alleviated.

As a tutor, I am always seeking to support my students by focusing on what they can already do really well. When taking a strengths based approach, students are not only better engaged, but the material they learn is more likely to not be forgotten.

Standardized tests are in no way a good reflection of the intellect and aptitude of students, and yet they are still widely used for admission to universities and even primary schools. When preparing students to take an admissions test, I emphasize that the test is never a value of their worth, but rather a very specific skill-set I can help them to learn. When preparing for these tests, we pair content with test strategies. I have extensive experience working with students who have testing anxiety, and my goal is always to build their confidence so that the anxiety which naturally comes up becomes manageable when they take test.

I also love to support students with their admissions essays, from brainstorming through final edits. These personal essays are opportunities for students to demonstrate to schools the type of students they would be welcoming to their campus, giving admissions counselors a peek at the wonderful human behind the test scores. With a background in theatre, I pride myself in engaging students in storytelling when writing their personal essays, ultimately yielding more creative and passionate responses.

Below are subjects which I am able to provide tutoring and support:

Testing: SAT, ACT, ISEE (UL and ML), SHSAT, TACHS.
