Becoming a private chemistry teacher is about combining strong subject knowledge with the ability to explain ideas clearly and adapt to each student’s level. You’ll need a solid grasp of core topics like atomic structure, bonding, moles, energetics, acids and bases, redox, and organic chemistry, plus awareness of the syllabus you’ll teach, whether that’s GCSE, A-Level, IB, or AP. Practically, most private tutors start by deciding on in-person or online lessons, setting an hourly rate based on experience and local demand, and building credibility through testimonials or a DBS check if you’re in the UK.
