About Fernando

Recently graduated with a first class honours of physics at Cardiff university with the best mark of my year group. I have no professional experience in giving lessons but have thoroughly helped many of my fellow students throughout school and university, along with teaching friends and family on topics which cover from maths and physics, up to even spanish and english language.

About the lesson

I am suitable for giving lessons from the most basic school levels of maths, physics, chemistry and computer science; although my expertise come in the GCSE and A-level's as I have fully covered all the material in those topics. Of course, I am applicable for lessons in university level physics covering all types of topics from astronomy to quantum mechanics, but can also teach most first year math courses. The fact that I'm a native spanish speaker grants me the option of being able to give my lessons in spanish too if needed and exceptionally give spanish language lessons. Having studied and lived in the UK for three years along with previously being in a british bilingual school has granted me a fluent level in english so I will assure you that language will not be a problem.

In terms of my methodology, I enjoy giving an initially condensed but gradually detailed perspective of a topic. Being a scientist myself I have endured all these years with people identifying science as useless, incomprehensible and boring; from the start I want to change those thoughts in my students and teach science visually with many diagrams, using logical day-to-day examples and in some cases give the passionate stories of the scientists behind such extraordinary findings. My lessons follow four straightforward steps (casually called 'TEPS') for each main topic: Theory, Example, Practice and Solutions. The student will be introduced to the concept, then understand it with the help of useful examples and finally practice it with a reasonable amount of exercises and the necessary feedback that comes with it. A set of concise notes about the topic will also be supplied to the student.
Although teaching to be able to pass exams is important, the key of my lessons is in the understanding as I want my student to be able to grasp that concept and then be able to explain it without the need of complicated jargon and without having to memorise long equations. I enjoy making science coherent for any person, and hopefully make it enjoyable for them as well.
