About Joseph

My background in the arts is vast and far-reaching. I started my art career in high school doing freelance illustrations for local bands in the community. I then achieved my BFA with a Concentration in Printmaking. I specialized in the process of Screen Printing, Intaglio etching and Lithography. After university I was selected as an Artist in Residency at the world-famous Torpedo Factory Arts Center in Oldtown Alexandria, Virginia. While there, I worked as a Printmaker for B.J. Anderson and as a Gallery Curator for Printmakers Inc. I then created a high school program through Virginia Public Schools to mentor, teach and prepare seniors looking to advance their education through university art programs. After departing from the Torpedo Factory Art Center, my passion for teaching the arts brought me to the Savannah College of Art and Design where I achieved my Master of Fine Arts in Illustration. Once graduated I worked in the industry with my own company, Abbadon Skateboards, creating, designing and promoting my works through conventions and events. I also work with Advertising firms and freelance business opportunities to create and design products that fit their professional needs all across the country. I then moved back to Savannah, Georgia to teach at SCAD as a Fine Arts Professor and Fine Arts Coach. Currently teaching and mentoring my students to elevate their personal artistic process.

About the lesson

My teaching philosophy is encouraging and engaging with students on a personal level. Working with them to find their unique voice through their process and concepts that they gravitate toward. My mission is to elevate students' artistic process with personalized instruction on mastering traditional drawing techniques, incorporating multiple mediums, and selecting the perfect materials to produce their best work. I have worked with students at all levels including K-12 and University students alike. I, for the past 4 years, have been working as a professor at SCAD along with industry professionals to direct my students into creative careers and career advancement. A typical lesson plan to expect is a refinement of foundational skills as needed alongside projects that can be seen used in the creative industry.
