About Malcolm

I am a professional musician, teacher and performer with over 15 years' experience. I have been teaching for over 12 years and I have been performing since the age of 12. I am part of critically acclaimed Scottish traditional music band, the Tannahill Weavers, with whom I have toured with internationally as well as around the UK.

About the lesson

I teach from absolute beginner through to advanced and I will tailor the lessons to suit your individual needs. The first lesson will be used for both the student and I to get to know each other, and to ascertain what it is the pupil would like to gain from the lessons. The student’s own interests will determine what direction the lessons take, as I find that that is a great way to get the best out of working together. Even though I specialise in Scottish and traditional violin, I teach the violin as an instrument rather than a particular genre. Regardless of what genre you would like to play, I think it is essential to have a solid understanding of the instrument itself. I will take you through technique of playing, how to build a repertoire, and the necessary theory to play the violin.
