About Ava
Hello, I'm Ava! I am a rising Sophomore at Columbia University and I am majoring in History with a minor in Mathematics. I am also a violinist of 12 years, who has graduated Suzuki Level X and plays in the Columbia Bach Society Chamber Orchestra.
My past work/volunteer positions include the Co-Editor in Chief of the Grey Castle Yearbook, a writer for the San Diego High School FUSE magazine, and a volunteer fellow for Rhizome.
Additionally, I have a Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish through the California Department of Education, and have taken significant coursework in both French and Korean.

- For writing lessons, I give extensive feedback on writing samples, work through the basic components of an essay, and go through how to alter and change that formula to be more compelling and stylistic (depending on the student's age and level). I love to help students find their voices in academic essays, college admissions essays, and journalistic work. My lessons involve reading and analyzing example essays, conversations about brainstorming and analysis, and practice exercises.
- Math lessons involve lots of practice problems, and different types of explanations that will help students better understand the why behind each problem.
- The structures of violin lessons vary significantly depending on the student's level, but involve practicing technique (through exercises, scales, and études), learning pieces from classical repertoire (including from the Suzuki Books), and developing style and artistry through continuous feedback. I teach students of all ages at a beginning or intermediate level (including those just picking up the instrument for the first time).
