About Samuel
From April of 2011 until October of 2012, I worked as a substitute teacher in Harrison County. I worked in a variety of content areas with all grade levels. This experience enabled me to establish relationships that would lead to future permanent positions.
In the fall of 2012, I completed a long-term sub position at Pressley Ridge in Laurel Park. Pressley Ridge is a treatment facility where youth are court appointed for truancy among other reasons. I was assigned the Informational Technology and Social Studies classes. I taught students 6th grade through 12th grade. I performed the same duties as the regular teacher. I created lesson plans, monitored student progress, and assigned grades. This was a wonderful experience. Up until this point, I had only subbed in one place for a short time period. I was able to experience the responsibilities of a full time teacher.
From January of 2013 until June of 2014, I worked at Lumberport Elementary in the Special Education classroom. While in the process of receiving my Master’s Degree in Special Education, I held this position under the agreement I would complete the degree, which I did. I worked at this position until the end of the 2013-2014 school year. Like at Pressley Ridge, I was assigned my own students and created lessons, monitored progress as corresponding with their Individualized Education Plans, and assigned grades. I assist students whom are struggling with Reading Comprehension and Math. I also gained experience with the IEP process through this position. I conducted meetings, updated goals, and behavior plans.
After leaving Lumberport Elementary, I took a position at Lumberport Middle as a Social Studies/ Special Education teacher. My experience at the elementary school was vital to receiving this assignment. Lumberport Middle became Lincoln Middle in the Spring of 2015. I worked at the combined schools from 2014-2016. My main assignment was teaching Social Studies. I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. While teaching all three grade levels and preparing course work for each, I also maintained a Special Education caseload. Both years I was assigned 8-10 students who I monitored and prepared IEP paperwork on their behalf. I met with their teachers to ensure they were meeting goals and conducted their IEP meetings. In the Spring of 2016, the Board of Education chose to dissolve my position and make two positions. That led to my current placement.
Currently, I am working as a Social Studies teacher at Liberty High School, my alma mater. I teach 9th grade World History and 10th grade US History. During lunch, I operate the lunch line computer collecting students’ numbers and last month, was chosen to review student applications for National Honor Society.
