-Your teaching method and techniques
When concepts are abstract, they can be very difficult to remember and utilize. I help my students place lessons in a larger context, relating to their own lives and helping them understand how these new ideas will be useful for their personal goals outside of the classroom.
-A typical lesson plan (example: literary analysis)
1. Ensure basic comprehension of the document (double check understanding of the bigger words and more confusing sentences)
2. Identify the background elements, i.e. who the author is, when the piece was written, what was going on at the time, etc.
3. Identify some of the main elements, i.e. theme, setting, language use, etc.
4. Use the information gathered to formulate a thesis (make sure you're presenting an argument)
5. Use that thesis to write an effective analysis
a. Use appropriate evidence
b. Synthesize that evidence in a clear sequential structure, following the form of intro, body, conclusion
-What sets you apart as a tutor
I’ve personally experienced a variety of educational methods from homeschooling to public classrooms. I know one-on-one relationships provide a significant learning advantage. I’ve learned that anyone can provide study material, but a teacher who takes the time to invest in and understand students is the key to real motivation and better performance in the classroom.
-Who the lessons are for (degree, level, class, specificities, etc.)
I provide lessons for, and love working with, all degrees, levels, and classes! I have experience with a range of ages and grade levels, from elementary school through college post-graduate.
