About Natalie
Hello, and welcome! My name is Natalie, and I am an experienced international educator with over 27 years of teaching experience in diverse school systems and cultural contexts. I have taught English and related subjects across a range of curricula, including IB (MYP, DP, CP), IEB, Cambridge-style programs, and other international and national curricula. This breadth of experience allows me to adapt my teaching easily to different academic requirements, assessment styles, and learner needs. I am particularly interested in teaching because I believe language is central to confidence, thinking, and self-expression. Many students struggle with English not because they lack ability, but because they lack clarity, structure, or belief in themselves. Supporting students as they develop confidence in reading, writing, and communicating clearly is what motivates me most as a teacher and tutor.

English
My approach to tutoring is student-centred, supportive, and highly structured. With 27 years of experience in international education, I specialise in helping students develop confidence, clarity, and independence in English language and academic skills, across a range of curricula — not only the IB.
I draw on my background in English, Psychology, Visual Arts, and Humanities, which allows me to teach English as both a language skill and a thinking tool. I focus on helping students understand how language works — in reading, writing, speaking, and analysis — rather than memorising formulas or relying on templates.
What makes me unique is my ability to combine:
• strong academic rigour
• clear scaffolding and structure
• a calm, confidence-building teaching style
This is particularly effective for students who feel anxious about English, struggle with writing, or need help organising their thinking.
Methodology and teaching style
My lessons are inquiry-based and skills-focused. I adapt my teaching to suit the learner, whether they need:
• help with reading comprehension
• essay writing and structure
• grammar and language accuracy
• exam preparation or confidence in spoken English
I have extensive experience teaching and supporting students in:
• IB (MYP, DP, CP)
• IEB (South African curriculum)
• British- and international-style school programmes
This means I understand different assessment styles, expectations, and terminology, and can tailor lessons accordingly.
Languages
I teach in English and specialise in supporting:
• native English speakers
• second-language (EAL) learners
• international students studying in English-medium schools
What a typical lesson looks like
A typical lesson is structured but flexible and usually includes:
• clear goals set with the student
• targeted skill-building (reading, writing, speaking, or exam technique)
• guided practice and discussion
• feedback focused on improvement and understanding
Students can expect a calm, encouraging environment where mistakes are part of learning and progress is clearly explained.
Who my lessons are for
My lessons are suited to:
• upper primary, secondary, and high school students
• international school students
• students preparing for exams or assessments
• learners who need academic English support
• students who want to improve confidence, clarity, and writing skills
I work especially well with students who benefit from clear explanations, patience, and personalised support.
