About Jenna
I’ve been studying and practicing art for many years, beginning with specialized drawing and painting courses in middle school and continuing through high school and college. While attending Bates College, I took several college-level drawing courses, and I continue to develop my own artistic practice through drawing and painting today. I’ve recently begun selling commissioned artwork, with pieces valued in the hundreds of dollars, and regularly share my work online. I’ve developed a distinctive style that has become recognizable to those who follow my work. Alongside my background in art, I’m also a practicing therapist, which has given me extensive experience working with people of all ages and creating supportive, encouraging environments for learning and self-expression. I’ve worked with children in school and therapeutic settings, ran an art club in high school, and currently co-facilitate an expressive arts group. I bring all of these experiences together in my lessons: my goal is not only to teach artistic technique, but to help each person feel comfortable experimenting, developing their own style, and discovering the creativity they already have.

Lessons are flexible and tailored to what you want to get out of them. I offer both virtual and in-person sessions, either in your home or at a public space, and you’ll be responsible for bringing your own art supplies. Sessions can be as structured or open-ended as you’d like: I can provide creative prompts, project ideas, demonstrations, and guidance on specific drawing and painting techniques. I also believe that making art is about much more than developing technical skills. It’s a way to strengthen creativity, support self-expression, explore ideas, and give your mind space to think differently. We can talk about the process and philosophy behind creating, including why creativity matters and how making art can shape the way we see ourselves and the world. If you’re interested in longer-term projects, we can develop pieces together, use lesson time to work through challenges, and build your skills along the way. I can also provide thoughtful critiques on composition, line quality, color, light and shadow, painting technique, and creative choices. Whether you want to learn a skill, complete a project, experiment, or simply make space to create, we’ll make the lessons work for you.
