About Lily

As someone who is passionate about learning languages myself, it only made sense for me to start teaching them as well!

I love sharing what I know, not only of the language itself, but also all the tricks and techniques I use while learning languages by myself.

About the lesson

Did you know that French shares over 60% of its vocabulary with English?
Sabías que el francés tiene 75% de vocabulario en común con el español?
Você sabia que o vocabulário francês tem 75% de palavras em comum com o português?

I am a native French teacher, with several years of experience teaching all ages and levels. I am also fluent in English, Spanish and (less so) in Brazilian Portuguese, and am teaching in these three languages (although my Portuguese is still a work in progress!)

In my classes, I focus on material that is understandable and easy to translate for the learner based on their own prior knowledge... even if that knowledge of French itself is zero.
For example, how much of the following sentence do you understand?
"Plus de 60% de votre vocabulaire anglais est d'origine française."

Basing your learning off your own prior knowledge and deduction skills will give you a very solid foundation in language learning. Together we will expand that knowledge little by little by reading and listening to short stories, watching videos, practicing speaking with an emphasis on pronunciation, and a LOT of repetition to make sure nothing gets forgotten!

Lily is a great French teacher. She focuses lessons around the skills I want to learn and gives extra context to help me understand and remember things like grammar rules or nuanced vocabulary. She speaks several languages, so she's able to help me learn French by referencing Spanish as well as English, since I speak both. She's also been very flexible and kind, accommodating a time zone difference in planning lessons and working with me to create a structure that works well for me.
