About Tall Sam
-5 years of experience giving casual and paid music lessons
-3 years touring as a professional Jazz Musician
-Studied Music Education and Jazz Composition at University of Idaho.
After college, I traveled the US and Mexico with my Saxophone, living out of a backpack. I relied on playing my instrument for a living, and gleaned lessons about being a musician that no school experience can give.

Fundamentals are important, but playing music should be fun from day one. We'll work on learning to play melodies and tunes with which the student is already familiar. I've found that once a new musician sees how simple some of their favorite songs can be, it's easy to dive into the music theory side and explain "why it works."
For more experienced players who are looking to work on their improvisation skills, we'll take a similar approach. The greatest players in jazz have all had one thing in common: a deep understanding of how melodies interact with harmony. We'll take this simple approach to building your confidence over a set of chords.
