About Angus
Hi, I’m Angus, a PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics) graduate from the University of Warwick (2:1) with an A*s in Maths at A level. I specialise in GCSE and A-level Maths and help students turn tricky topics into secure exam marks. I've always had a passion both for educating myself and for teaching others and have greatly enjoyed tutoring others and seeing them succeed, which I find very fulfilling. I have a wide variety of interests, but especially in those that have wide applicability in understanding the world and why things are as they are. Maths is the most fundamental topic for understanding the world, underlying so many fields and unlocking a vast number of doors: machine learning, finance, business, physics, engineering, economics, academia, software engineering, and many more. For these reasons I find great pleasure in helping others learn and grow their maths skills and become more confident, allowing them more opportunity for success in love and inculcating a love of maths within them.

I turn tricky topics into exam marks. With weekly small groups or 1:1, I aim to help boost both grades and confidence within ~8–12 weeks. Who it’s for: GCSE (Foundation & Higher), A-Level (Pure/Stats/Mechanics) — Edexcel, AQA, OCR exam boards. Strong fit for motivated students aiming for 6→7/8/9 or A→A*, resitters, or anyone trying to get a pass. Online UK-wide; in-person around Rainham/Wennington and nearby (Aveley, Hornchurch, Upminster, Thurrock, Brentwood; Havering/Essex) How my lessons work: First lesson (free on Superprof): brief diagnostic + mini-lesson. The first lesson is focused on developing a clear plan (topics, timeline, exam strategy). Weekly structure (summarised): 5-min recap → opening hook for engagement → Socratic dialogue → explicit teaching with worked examples → guided practice → timed exam questions → feedback & next steps. Cognitive approach: direct instruction, mastery learning, cognitive load principles, and Socratic questioning to cement understanding. Various inspirations, including Kieran Egan, Benjamin Bloom and Piotr Wozniak. Spaced review: I provide ready-made flashcards/notes for Anki/Quizlet/Supermemo; past-paper question sets aligned to your board. Progress checks: quick mini-tests weekly; a fuller mock less frequently with a scorecard. Proof & background: A* at A-Level Maths • UKMT Senior Kangaroo – Certificate of Merit • Enhanced DBS • Warwick University (2:1 degree in PPE) • TSA top-decile score for reasoning (including numerical) • Volunteer experience via Action Tutoring. Formats & rates (per hour) 1:1: GCSE £27 • A-Level £32 Pairs: GCSE £19 per person (pp) • A-Level £22 pp (best value).
