About Malachy
I left school last year having achieved 13 grade 9 GSCES - four of which were in maths and advanced maths courses. This means that I have a comprehensive understanding of the GCSE course, and I have a lot of experience with how topics tend to be taught. I have experience in tutoring at a GCSE level from being a peer mentor.
I also have experience in teaching much younger students; during the first lockdown I tutored three or four year 6 students, ensuring that their transition to secondary school was a smooth one.
I am now studying A-level maths and Further maths, and I am predicted an A* in both of these, as well as in my other two a level subjects.

I tend to teach in one of two ways, depending on the needs and desires of the student. The first is through consolidation - working on topics that the student has learnt, but feels like they need more work to understand properly. The second is for those students who feel as though they want to be pushed beyond what they are being taught at school. I can drop in topics that push the students towards more complex maths, leading them to gain a new understanding and interest in maths. I either teach topics that the student brings to me, or topics that I think will push the student on.
I start lessons with a couple of starter questions that reiterate what we were looking at in previous lessons, in order to make sure the student understands them properly. I will then go on to the main topic of the lesson, starting by talking the students through a few starter questions before letting them have a go at some examples by themselves.
I can teach in this way for students of all ages, from primary school up to GCSE level.

Covid Restrictions mean that only online lessons can occur at the moment. The rate for this is set at £10 per hour, dropping to £9 and then £8 for blocks of 5 and 10 hours respectively.
