About Cutler

I am a Texas Native and grew up on my family farm. From a young age, I was captivated by nature and was always curious to learn about the wild plants that thrived on the edges of our pastures. But that's not where my curiosity ended. Simultaneously, I was interested in the Spanish language and Mexican influence that permeates through most of Texas. This curiosity for language and culture, paired with knowledge imparted by my herbalist mother, guided me to discover the field of ethnobotany: the study of the interrelationship between people and plants. I wanted to learn more about the plants that grew around the world, and how people spoke about them. Understanding how language intertwines with cultural understandings of the environment, I pursued a BA in Linguistics (with a minor in pre-medical studies) at Emory University while conducting research in a lab dedicated to Medical Ethnobotany, Phytochemistry, and Drug Discovery. During my time in the lab, I traveled to Guatemala and Ecuador to conduct fieldwork and develop an understanding of the Spanish Language. This exposure to Latin America further ignited my passion for ESL and language more broadly. Upon graduating from Emory, I authored a thesis entitled "A Theoretical Account of Whale Song Syntax: A New Perspective for Understanding Human Language Structure." Following my graduation, I pursued an MSc in Ethnobotany from the University of Kent and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in England. There, I deepened my understanding of botany and nurtured skills in ethnographic/linguistic research. Now, I tutor students like you in topics ranging from biology, chemistry, ESL, linguistics, and general college admissions.

Because every student is different, I start by assessing my students' preferred learning styles and working to build for them a plan that yields the best results. Whether through passive or active learning approaches, I strive to provide my students with an environment that fosters knowledge retention and confidence. My lessons are for anyone who struggles with the English language or desires a more comprehensive and advanced understanding of linguistics and language. I want my students to succeed and be equipped with the intellectual confidence to achieve their goals.
