About Nathan

I am a 25+ year coach at the high school & collegiate levels. I love working with and empowering our young adults to help them make connections between what they are learning, and what they will see in the world once it's their turn to face it head-on! I really struggled through high school because I failed to connect these concepts to anything I knew or cared about in my own world. I often tried my best to get out of work because I didn't understand it, and was scared of looking stupid in front of my friends. That fear stole so much of my potential, which is why teaching is now so important to me! I went on to college 14 years after I graduated high school and earned a 3.75 GPA while working towards my two degrees! At the same time I was also a husband, a father of six, a family counselor and a high school football coach! Through all of that, I found learning to be easy and fun when looked at with the proper perspective. And since becoming an educator, it's been my passion to help students like me achieve that same shift in their own life by helping them adjust their own personal perspective.

About the lesson

"When will I ever use this in real life?" It's a fair question! Often coming from someone who is frustrated with the way Math is presented in our textbooks. The honest answer is we use Math more than we think out in the real world, it just rarely looks the same as it does in the classroom. I'd love to help your student not only see the connection between the two versions, but to then make it enjoyable by building their confidence in fun and mentally satisfying ways! With Math, our kids are basically learning how to learn by strengthening their mind the way an athlete strengthens their body. Our brains are very similar to our muscles in this way! And when we use Math to train our brains, especially in a younger mind, it will positively impact their problem-solving and decision-making skills exponentially!! If that sounds like something you and your student would be interested in, I'd love to work with you to unlock the potential your student has that is likely being hindered by the different hurdles that traditional classroom methods either don't work on, or can even cause because its methods are unrelatable to today's youth. I strive to connect with each student to figure out how they best process information, and tailor lessons that they will better understand and enjoy. This will help them be less intimidated by math in the classroom, and open them up to so many more opportunities! As well as giving them the confidence to overcome more difficult challenges in both their academic career and in their own personal life!
