About Edward
I'm Edward, a Maths and Economics student at LSE. I went to Colchester Royal Grammar School and sat my A-levels there in 2024.
For a long time, I thought economics was just finance: banks and stocks. The more time I've spent studying it, the more I've understood its actual use. Microeconomics and macroeconomics are about the behaviour of people individually and as a whole, and together they explain how markets form and why they work the way they do.
Outside my degree I play football every week, watch Arsenal, and spend a lot of time on music and fitness.
I enjoy teaching because I like seeing students work something out — not just going from stuck to confident, but the times they use a different example or explanation to the one I used or the one on the answer sheet.

I'm currently at LSE studying Maths and Economics. I teach GCSE to A-level Economics, in which I achieved A*. I sat it in 2024, so it's the current specification instead of the ones changed years ago.
I sat Edexcel A, so I'm familiar with how to answer it, but I'm glad to teach the spec or content of other boards. The board matters more in Economics than in Maths — Edexcel A has a four-theme structure and a different paper format to AQA and OCR — though around 80-90% of the content is shared, so I can work with other boards using their own past papers, as well as each teacher's specific way of structuring answers.
Lessons run an hour, which works well weekly, or two hours for intensive revision closer to exams. Before the first session I recommend students submit a past paper or a piece of marked homework, just so I can focus on actual gaps instead of a general recap. If a recap is preferred or needed, I'm glad to start there.
I teach by working through problems with the student instead of lecturing. I find that most students lose marks on evaluation rather than knowledge — they can explain a diagram but not say why the effect might be smaller than it looks, or what it depends on. That's usually where I focus, along with applying theory to the extract instead of writing around it.
Suitable for GCSE and A-level. Online, or in person near Colchester.
