About Jin

I’m a professionally trained Iinguist, and a life-long language learner and lover. Besides my mother tongue Mandarin Chinese, I have reached C2 for English, Cantonese and Xiang dialect while I obtained my BA and MSc degrees in linguistics from Hong Kong and the Netherlands. Along the journey I have also lived in Russia, Singapore, Finland and Germany and have befriended people who speak very many different languages. Currently learning Russian and German (B1), one big challenge in my life now is to not mix them up – which only makes me realize how simple Chinese is (at least the grammar!)

About the lesson

As a linguist and a long-time language learner, I understand the principles of languages, as well as the language learning process in various aspects and approaches. As a teacher, I try to put myself into the students' shoes, share my linguistics knowledge and language learning experiences, and be patient and encouraging to my students as much as possible. I think each student is unique, and discovering your own motivation is very important. I'd like my students to both work hard and have fun, and ultimately integrate the language into everyday life.

I specialize in:
- pronunciation
- cultural insights and immersive learning
- conversational practices
- vocabulary

We could opt to go through a structured program with textbooks (more suitable for beginners), or have real-life conversations with native materials (more for intermediate/advanced learners).

You will get your tailor-made lesson plans, wordlists, flashcards, homework (and music playlists!).
