About Xiaolu

My passion for teaching started when I was a little kid. My cousin and I used to spend our summer holidays at our grandparents’ home. We put our dolls on the bed and taught them Chinese, maths and other subjects we were studying at school. It is one of the most beautiful memories about my childhood.
I grew up in a traditional family in Shanghai. When I was 16, I got a scholarship for studying one year in Italy. I took the opportunity with excitement and fear, completely unaware that it was going to change my life from that moment. It was an eye-opening experience. Living in a different country allowed me to see a bigger world than I could ever imagine.
Some years later, I went back to study and live in Italy, and from there I continued living in Europe for the last 10 years.
I consider myself a mixture of these two cultures. Eventually this strong feeling drove me to share my knowledge about Chinese language and its culture by teaching.
Since I received the CTCSOL (Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages), I dedicate myself to teaching Mandarin Chinese in language schools, universities and to private students. My goal is to make Chinese learning fun and practical.

About the lesson

I have studied foreign languages and I am still learning. During this process, I tried so many approaches and finally built up my own methods in order to practice language skill in a fun way.
Ever since I became a Chinese teacher, I share my methods on my students and try my best to make them love the language they are learning.
Since I strongly believe that language learning is not about memorizing grammar and vocabularies, I simulate daily situations in the class, motivate my students to practice through games, songs, and conversations. The final goal is to make sure that they can use the language without books and grammar sheets in hand.
I believe each student is different, therefore all the lessons are tailor-made, based on personal interests, language level and knowledge gaps.

All the Mandarin Chinese courses are tailor-made for each student.
The first 30 minutes are free of charge. We will discuss your objectives and create a personalized study program.
