About Freya

I am a friendly and enthusiastic 18-year-old student, with a deep interest in Asian languages and cultures, with a plan of studying Korean at university later this year. As the summer holidays quickly approach, I would love to assist both Primary and Secondary School pupils in their Chinese language journey, whether it`s in preparation for GCSE or A-Level studies, as a beginner, or just for fun! Due to the fact that I am between Sixth Form and University, I no longer have any prior commitments and am readily available for immediate tuition. As a result of the completion of my A-Level studies, I will be available immediately until mid-September, which is the predicted start of my university term. This is approximately 3 months which I can dedicate to tutoring pupils, but I would also be more than happy to assist in-person during half-term breaks and online while at university.

About the lesson

As odd as it sounds, I believe that whenever we learn foreign languages, we should learn the way children learn their native languages. How do children learn? Through LIVING the language! It would be silly to expect a toddler to pick up a book and learn difficult grammar structures or high-level vocabulary, so why should everyone else do it? Although we would, of course, be using books and worksheets as a frame of reference for tutoring, it is my philosophy that language-learning should be fun, and not limited to boring class exercises without many opportunities to actually utilise new language skills (which is probably the reason why most people absolutely hated learning languages at school). As a part of my tuition, we will be doing all the fun stuff - watching films, listening to music, creating artistic media to encourage young people's enthusiasm for language and building confidence - and the best part of it is that we will be learning the entire time!

Details

- For those studying for GCSE exams or other exams of similar stature, prices may rise the closer to exam time (depending on demand).
- £7 cancellation fee, if less than 24 hours before the scheduled time.
- If the student wishes to have extra resources, relevant materials (such as books, music, films etc.) can be purchased online (via Amazon, eBay or other retailers). If the student prefers less-expensive copies of these resources, an extra £2 will be charged per copied resource used in lessons (this is to cover printing costs and the use of my own time to make/curate relevant resources. Please note that this is only paid once per item, so for example, if we were going to study a film over the course of a few lessons, only one payment is needed, as the film counts as one item).
