About Francis
I’m Francis, a filmmaker, cinematographer, editor, and film production instructor at NYU Tisch. My work spans fiction, documentary, commercial projects, live events, and independent films produced in the United States and Latin America.
As a filmmaker, I’m especially interested in visual storytelling, natural performances, documentary approaches, and finding the right cinematic language for each project. I’ve worked professionally as a director, director of photography, camera operator, producer, and editor, which allows me to understand the full filmmaking process from the first idea through the final cut.
At NYU, I advise students as they develop, prepare, shoot, and complete their films. I enjoy helping filmmakers clarify what they want to communicate, work through creative and technical problems, and make stronger choices with the resources available to them.
I work with students at different experience levels and adapt my teaching to their goals, interests, and individual projects.

My name is Francis, and I teach filmmaking through the practical process of developing, shooting, and editing real projects. I focus on how story, performance, composition, lighting, sound, and camera movement work together.
I teach film production at NYU Tisch and work professionally as a director, cinematographer, camera operator, and editor across fiction, documentary, commercial, and live-event production.
A typical lesson is built around your goals. We may review footage, break down a scene, develop a visual approach, plan a shoot, solve camera or lighting problems, or work through an edit. Lessons can cover cinematography, directing, documentary filmmaking, working with actors and non-actors, improv and scripted, production planning, sound, Adobe Premiere Pro, film-school portfolios, and feedback on works in progress.
My approach is direct, practical, and personalized. I help students understand why a creative choice works, solve production problems, and develop a visual language of their own.
Lessons are suitable for beginners, film students, college applicants, independent filmmakers, and working professionals looking for detailed project feedback.
