About Elven

I understand what it’s like to struggle with math—there was a time in middle school when it felt impossible for me. But with persistence, I not only improved, I discovered the joy and satisfaction that comes from solving problems. Now, as a data scientist with an academic background in mathematics and biostatistics, I bring both expertise and empathy to my teaching. I know how to break down complex ideas, guide students through challenges, and help them build lasting confidence. Whether a student is trying to catch up or aiming for excellence, I’m here to support their journey.

About the lesson

International perspective: Studied math in China, high school in New Zealand, and earned degrees in the U.S. (B.A. in Mathematics, M.S. in Biostatistics)

Flexible approach: Teach multiple problem-solving methods from different education systems

Lesson format: Students bring homework or I prepare targeted problem sets; sessions end with key takeaways

Levels taught: Elementary through high school (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus etc)

Location: In-person at public libraries or at student's home or online
