About Sandy
Hi, I'm Sandy! I'm a keen musician. I play guitar well, bass almost as well, and I dabble in singing and drums. I like to discuss and read about philosophy: Tolostoy is one of my absolute favourites and Anna Karenina, his treatise on the search for meaning in life, influenced my life profoundly. Maths is my favourite academic discipline; it is the purest, most distilled form of logical reasoning. I believe that, unfortunately, the school curriculum sucks the joy out of maths for most people; I would love to help my keener students discover the beauty and creativity of maths. (Big up Euclid, Newton, and Euler - my favourite mathematicians.) If I could dine with one historical figure, dead or alive, it would be Richard Feynman.
Also, I ride a Kawasaki Er-6f if any of you dads out there are interested ;)

Most students I teach just want to pass - that is fine. However, if a student wishes to truly learn the art of maths, I can go into detail and explain where the formulas we use in these courses come from. Of course, learning the 'why' (rather than the 'how') is more condusive to knowledge retaention but, as I said, many simply want to pass. To achieve this, I start with practice questions to assess the capabilities of my students, then I will cover the concept of whichever topic we are focusing on (to varying degrees of detail, depending on the level and goals of my student), then worked examples and finally past paper questions, which we will work on and discuss together. Any age is welcome, old and young, but my focus is on National 5 to Advanced Higher.
