About V Karthikgayan

I'm Karthik, 18, from Selangor. I graduated from Oasis International School with an American High School Diploma, CGPA 4.17, and I'm now reading for a Bachelor of Music Performance at Sunway University.

I tutor Maths, English and piano. The through-line in all three is the same: I'm interested in why something isn't landing, not in getting through material. Most students who think they're bad at a subject have a specific gap somewhere behind them, and once you find it the rest usually moves quickly.

Music is the other half of my life; ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction in Piano and Theory, and competition prizes from Vivace and Euroasia. Practising an instrument seriously for a decade teaches you something that transfers directly to Maths: progress is almost never about talent. It's about breaking the hard part into smaller parts and being honest about what you can't do yet.

I started tutoring because I was the student who needed things explained a second way before they made sense. I'm reliable with scheduling, I prepare before every lesson, and I'll tell you honestly if I don't think I'm the right tutor for your child.

About the lesson

What I care about most is genuine understanding, not memorising and not guessing. I'm a patient tutor and no question is too basic. If something isn't clicking, that's exactly where we should be spending our time.

What I teach
Primary Mathematics (Years 1–6, KSSR and international curricula). IGCSE Mathematics 0580 Extended. IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606. SAT Math. SPM Mathematics and Additional Mathematics.

How lessons run
Trial lesson first, so I can find the actual gap rather than guess at it. A student losing marks on algebraic manipulation and a student losing marks on exam timing need completely different hours.

Concept before drill. We don't move on until the why is solid, because a formula you've memorised but don't understand is the first thing to go under exam pressure.

Targeted practice between sessions, and we open each lesson by going through what you got wrong. That's where most of the improvement actually happens — the hour together is for diagnosis, the week is for the work.

Patient pace. Happy to slow down, revisit, and explain a second way. Most students who think they're bad at Maths just haven't had it explained in a way that fits how they think.

Format
60-minute sessions. Online by video call, or in person. Free 30-minute trial lesson before anything is committed.

IGCSE 0580, SPM Mathematics, Year 9–10 — RM80/hour
IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606 and SAT Math — RM95/hour

Packs
5 hours — RM375 (RM75/hour)
10 hours — RM700 (RM70/hour)

Packs run at one lesson per week unless we agree otherwise. Unused hours carry forward. Reschedule with 24 hours' notice. Practice sets between lessons and marking of your work are included at no extra cost.

The first 30 minutes are free and are not deducted from any pack. Start there. There's no reason to commit to a block before we've both seen whether this works.
