About Khai Don

Hi, I’m Khai Don TRAN, a first-year Biomedicine student at the University of Melbourne. Having recently graduated with a 96 ATAR and a raw study score of 38 in Mathematical Methods, I know exactly what it takes to navigate the VCE pressure cooker.

I specialize in helping students move beyond "memorizing formulas" to actually understanding the logic. Whether you are struggling to find your feet in Year 7 or aiming for a 40+ score in Methods, I provide the roadmap to get there.
My Approach: The "Fluency" Method
I treat Mathematics like a language. Once you understand the grammar (the rules) and the vocabulary (the concepts), fluency follows naturally.
I exclusively offer 1.5-hour sessions. Why? Because 60 minutes is rarely enough to review homework, master a new concept, and apply it to exam-style questions. My deep-dive sessions ensure we never rush the "aha!" moment.
What I Offer

Year 7–10: Building "Bulletproof" Foundations
The jump to Senior Math is where many students struggle. I focus on:
• Gap Identification: Pinpointing the hidden "cracks" in fractions or algebra that cause trouble later.

• Engagement: Using my Biomed background to show how math applies to real-world science and logic.
• Study Habits: Teaching students how to structure their working out so they stop losing "silly" marks.

VCE Methods (Units 1/2 & 3/4): The Exam Edge

Methods is a game of strategy. We focus on the 2023–2027 VCAA Study Design:

• CAS Proficiency: Mastering the TI-Nspire/ClassPad so it becomes a high-speed tool, not a crutch.
• Exam 1 vs. Exam 2: Specific drills for "calc-free" precision and "calc-active" efficiency.
• The Bound Reference: I help you build a concise, high-utility summary book throughout the year.
• SAC Optimization: Analyzing past papers to understand exactly what VCAA assessors are looking for.

The Details

• Duration: 1.5-hour sessions (Optimized for retention and practice).
• Location: Melbourne CBD (State Library/UniMelb) & Eastern Suburbs (Local libraries or in-home).
• Resources: You'll receive tailored lesson notes, curated practice SACs, and past VCAA questions.

• Support: Stuck on a question on a Tuesday night? My students have out-of-hours message support for quick help
