About Lauren

I am a physician working as a diagnostic radiologist who loves teaching, especially one-on-one tutoring where I can tailor the lesson to the student's exact level of understanding. I received my bachelor's degree in Nutritional Science, where I took coursework including general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, anatomy, physiology, cell biology, microbiology, molecular biology, and nutrition-specific courses including life cycle nutrition, nutritional biochemistry, and basic nutritional science. In college, I spent four years working as a tutor and/or teaching assistant in general chemistry, anatomy/physiology, and nutrition. I also worked in oncology research for 3 years. Following my undergraduate degree, I attended medical school where I furthered my studies in anatomy, physiology, histology, pathology, physics, biochemistry, and pharmacology. I worked as a tutor for three years in medical school, tutoring other medical students in the basic science courses listed above, as well as test-specific preparation strategies for both medical school exams and standardized national medical board exams (USMLE steps 1 and 2). I continued my oncology research during medical school. Following medical school, I became a diagnostic radiology resident, where I have been working for the past 5 years. I spend the majority of my workday interpreting medical imaging (MRIs, CT scans, X-rays, ultrasounds, and nuclear medicine imaging exams). A smaller portion of my current work involves teaching lectures to medical students or other residents. I am passionate about teaching and mentorship and love breaking complex subjects down to their basics. When I am not working, I love spending time with my kids, hiking, running, and baking. I'm excited to be a part of your learning journey!

I offer individual tutoring sessions in biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, and nutritional science. I currently work as a physician (diagnostic radiologist) where I teach medical students and residents in a traditional lecture format, but I worked as a tutor to students individually throughout college and medical school. When I teach, I focus on understanding the fundamentals of the subject, building on that foundation, tying in real-life examples, and showing classic examples of how the concept can be tested. I create a comfortable learning environment where you are free to make mistakes and truly learn the material. I tailor my teaching approach to your level and learning style, but typically this involves a combination of drawing out a visual for you as we talk through the subject matter followed by a problem solving session: this is where we talk about real life examples, what happens if a certain step in the process breaks down, how the topic could be tested, and working through practice problems. At the end of the session, I have you briefly teach the subject back to me to assess understanding and where we need to continue practicing. My tutoring sessions are very tailored to your goals to sure up your understanding of these complex subjects and ensure that you master the material. My lessons can be tailored to high school, undergraduate, pre-medical/MCAT prep, or graduate level (medicine) students.
